Theodore Roosevelt Island
Roosevelt Island is situated on the Potomac River sandwiched between Georgetown in Washington, DC and Rosslyn in Arlington, VA. It is designated as a National Park and is dedicated to the 26th U.S. president. It is roughly 88 acres in size and has two and a half miles of trails. Roosevelt Island is typically a very quiet and tranquil place, with the exception of jet noise from aircraft flying in and out of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport located just down the river. I started photographing on Roosevelt Island in the mid-1990's and focussed my lens pretty intensely on it during 1997 and 1998. I limited my photography to the boundaries of its banks because I liked the challenge of being "confined to a defined place" to photograph. Which I found yielded some surprising rewards in the genesis of new ways of seeing the same things, especially at different times of the year. Read more about Roosevelt Island here. |
